Percy HarvinThe New York Jets need a major spark on offense. According to FOX Sports’ Jay Glazer, they just got one.

Glazer reported Friday afternoon, citing a source, that the Jets have acquired wide receiver Percy Harvin from the Seattle Seahawks for a conditional draft pick.

NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport confirmed the news via a source, adding that the pick reportedly is a “mid-rounder.”

Harvin’s addition will be a huge boost for the Jets, whose anemic offense is a big reason for the team’s 1-6 start this season. New York enters Week 8 averaging just 17.3 points per game, good for 30th in the NFL, and ranks 26th in the league in yards per game despite garnering 423 total yards against the New England Patriots on Thursday night.

Harvin established himself as a legitimate big-play threat with the Seahawks, highlighted by his kickoff return for a touchdown to start the second half of Super Bowl XLVIII. Yet the 26-year-old has underperformed in 2014, entering Sunday with just 133 total receiving yards, and ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports that all might not have been well with Harvin in Seattle.

Harvin joins Eric Decker, Jeremy Kerley and Jace Amaro as the top weapons at quarterback Geno Smith’s disposal.

UPDATE (Oct. 18, 4:40 p.m.) — The Jets confirmed the deal Saturday and also announced the release of wide receiver David Nelson. Seahawks general manager John Schneider released a statement in which he acknowledged the move as an “extremely difficult decision.”

“Although this was an extremely difficult decision, we are constantly evaluating our team and believe at this time, that this is in our best interest to move the team forward,” Schneider said. “We thank Percy for his efforts that contributed to a Super Bowl XLVIII victory and wish him well.”
