Santos Laguna defender Oswaldo Alanis knows when it’s the right time to strike, and he doesn’t worry too much about his location.

Alanis scored one of the best long-range goals you’ll ever see Wednesday in Santos Laguna’s 4-2 win over Tigres UANL in the semifinal of the Copa MX Aperutra (Mexican Cup).

The game was tied at 2 in the 60th minute when Alanis received a pass, looked up and saw that Tigres goalkeeper Nahuel Guzman had strayed off his goal line. So Alanis shot from behind the halfway line — some 65 yards away from the goal — and beat the scurrying Guzman with his effort.

Alanis’ goal proved to be the winner and knocked defending champions Tigres out of the tournament. Santos Laguna will face Puebla in the Copa MX final.
