Alex Burrows is looking a little tougher after Sunday’s game against the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena.
The Vancouver Canucks forward found himself in the wrong place at the wrong time when he took a skate to the face in the second period. Burrows fell down front of Vancouver’s net, tripping Red Wings forward Johan Franzen. As the two fell, Franzen’s skate made contact with Burrows’ cheek.
Franzen immediately checked to ensure that Burrows was OK.
Burrows left the ice and made his way to the locker room. However, he returned to the game in the third period with seven stitches in his face.
Every time an incident like this occurs, it’s a reminder to players and fans how dangerous hockey can be. Burrows wears a visor, which may have protected him from any further damage, but as he put it, “it was a scary moment for sure.”
The Red Wings went on to win 5-3.
