David Ortiz Wins Hank Aaron Award As AL’s Best Hitter For 2005 Season

The Boston Red Sox were unable to repeat as World Series champions in 2005, but David Ortiz still brought home some hardware following a very impressive season.

Ortiz won the 2005 Hank Aaron Award as the American League’s best hitter. The Hank Aaron Award is given annually to the Major League Baseball players selected as the top hitters in each league, as voted on by a special panel and fans.

Ortiz hit .300 with 47 home runs and an MLB-best 148 RBIs. He earned his second All-Star selection and finished second in AL MVP voting behind Alex Rodriguez.

Ortiz accepted his award on Oct. 26, 2005 in Houston before Game 4 of the World Series between the Chicago White Sox and Houston Astros. Check out the scene below.
