Drew Bledsoe Likens Playing QB For Jets To Being A Sacrificial Virgin

Mark Sanchez will have the chance to revive his career Sunday, which is a big step up from being a sacrificial virgin.

For the record, those last words are Drew Bledsoe’s, not ours.

The former New England Patriots quarterback went on ESPN Radio with Colin Cowherd on Tuesday and had some interesting comments when it came to Sanchez, who spent five up-and-down seasons with the New York Jets.

“You know, I’m just so damn happy for Mark Sanchez,” Bledsoe said, via NFL.com. “I mean, going to play quarterback for the Jets, it’s kind of like, you know when they used to like take the pretty young virgin up to the edge of the volcano and just throw ’em in? That’s kind of what it is when you play quarterback for the Jets. It just feels bad.”

All right then.

Of course, Bledsoe has a point. Sanchez was the source of intense scrutiny during his final disappointing seasons in New York, and Geno Smith and Michael Vick certainly haven’t done any better.

Sanchez has the opportunity to distance himself from all that over the next few weeks, as he’s now Philadelphia Eagles’ starting quarterback with Nick Foles out indefinitely with a broken collarbone.

“Mark had to live with that for a long time,” Bledsoe added. “And people threw him under the bus like he was the whole reason for the demise of the Jets. To see him be able to come on the field in a good system with good talent and perform well, I’m just really happy for him.”

Starting quarterback for the NFC East-leading Eagles? Beats being thrown into a volcano.
