Eric BerryEric Berry just wanted to play.

The Kansas City Chiefs announced Monday that it’s believed Berry has lymphoma, and Berry’s first question after learning his diagnosis might surprise you: He asked the doctor if he could still play in Sunday’s game against the Denver Broncos.

“I wasn’t in the room at that particular time, but (trainer) Rick (Burkholder) and the doctors talked to him. He did ask that,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said at a press conference, via FOXSports.com, “and he asked it to me again. … That’s just the way he’s wired.”

Berry will miss the remainder of the season, the team announced.

The Chiefs take on the Broncos in a big AFC West matchup on Sunday, and a win would bring KC into a tie with Denver for first place in the division.

Berry stole our hearts last year when he faced his fear of horses in the most awesome way.
