Report: Giancarlo Stanton, Marlins Discussing 12-Year, $320M Contract

Giancarlo Stanton might be getting paid with a capital P.

The Marlins are reportedly discussing a record-breaking 10-year, $300 million deal that would keep the slugger in Miami long-term, according to FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, citing major league sources.

Rosenthal reports Stanton’s representatives have also discussed shorter contracts with Miami, but “the mere fact that the sides continue to talk is a sign of progress,” sources said.

General manager Dan Jennings added that while the two sides are having “continual dialogue,” they aren’t “close to anything.”

The 25-year-old outfielder is coming off a monster year, hitting .288 with 37 home runs and 105 RBIs.

Detroit Tigers first baseman Miguel Cabrera currently owns the the largest contract in baseball with a 10-year, $292 million deal.

UPDATE, Friday, 7:55 a.m.: The contract being discussed between Stanton and the Marlins is in the 12-year, $320 million range, FOX Sports’ Ken Rosenthal, citing a source, reported Friday morning.

This obviously is a change from Rosenthal’s previous report, which suggested the sides were discussing a 10-year, $300 million deal.
