Archer reports Romo suffered two fractured transverse processes when he took a knee to the back during the third quarter of the overtime loss. The transverse process is a small bone that sticks out from either side of the vertebrae, Archer explained.
Romo initially exited the game, but returned for the Cowboys’ final two drives of the game after X-rays were negative and after getting a painkilling shot.
On Wednesday morning, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones revealed the injury isn’t season-ending, and also said it isn’t related to the back surgery he underwent during the offseason to repair a herniated disc.
The Cowboys have announced Romo, who has not practiced all week and is listed as questionable, will be a game-time decision. If Romo can’t go, Dallas will turn to Brandon Weeden to take his place.
