Saints’ Keenan Lewis Played Second Half With Nasty-Looking Knee (Photo)

Knees aren’t supposed to look like that, Keenan Lewis.

The New Orleans Saints cornerback suffered what was originally termed a quadriceps injury during Sunday’s overtime loss against the San Francisco 49ers. The team initially ruled Lewis out for the remainder of the game, but he somehow managed to talk his way back into the action, which is a remarkable feat considering his leg looked anything but OK.

Lewis was carted off the field during the first half, but after convincing trainers and the New Orleans coaching staff that he could get back on the field, he returned for the second half, sporting a knee brace and fighting through the pain.

“Even though I was in pain, I tell myself, ‘If I can walk, I can try to go.’ My team needed me, and I just gave what I could give,” Lewis said, per ESPN.com. “I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be hurting next week and I’ll be out there hopefully on one leg (again). I’ll let the trainers evaluate me, we’ve got good trainers. And if I can walk, I’m going.”

Lewis eventually did leave the game when he couldn’t bend his knee anymore, according to ESPN.com. He’ll undergo an MRI on Monday, but like he said, if he can walk, he’ll be a go for the Week 11 matchup at home against the Cincinnati Bengals.

But in the meantime, yikes.
