BOSTON — Bruins defenseman Matt Bartkowski was ejected from Sunday night’s game at TD Garden after his first-period hit on Buffalo Sabres winger Brian Gionta drew multiple penalties.
Buffalo center Marcus Foligno immediately defended his captain and dropped his gloves to fight Bartkowski. Foligno received an instigator minor in addition to a five-minute major penalty for fighting and 10 minutes for misconduct. The Sabres had a three-minute power play as a result of everything.
Here’s a penalty summary, via NHL.com:
Gionta was helped off the ice and didn’t return in the first period, and the Sabres later announced that he and Foligno wouldn’t return to the game because of injuries.
