Celtics’ Marcus Smart Suffers Achilles Injury Vs. Knicks, Leaves Game

BOSTON — Celtics rookie Marcus Smart was forced to leave Friday’s matchup with the New York Knicks after falling awkwardly on his left ankle.

The injury appeared to occur when Smart drew a charge on Knicks guard Shane Larkin during the second quarter. He came up limping and exited into the locker room at the next stoppage.

The Celtics soon after announced that Smart suffered an Achilles strain and would not return.

Smart missed 10 games earlier this season after spraining the same ankle, but it is unknown at this time whether the two injuries are related.

The Knicks also lost a player during the first half Friday. Starting shooting guard Iman Shumpert dislocated his left shoulder while battling Celtics forward Jeff Green for a loose ball.
