Julian Edelman: Patriots ‘Never Satisfied With Losing,’ Must Turn Page

There’s a difference between acknowledging the positives of your game in a loss and being satisfied with losing.

That’s what New England Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman stressed during his weekly appearance on WEEI’s “Middays with MFB” on Monday after coach Bill Belichick was abnormally optimistic following the Patriots’ 26-21 loss to the Green Bay Packers.

“Around here we’re never satisfied with losing,” Edelman said. “That was a good football team. They outplayed us a little bit yesterday, and they made more plays than us.”

Cornerback Darrelle Revis echoed those sentiments after Sunday’s game, saying the last football team that he’d been on that takes losses harder than the Pats was his high school team. Still, Edelman noted that New England can’t let one loss prevent them from moving forward.

“We still have a bunch of games, we have four games, a month of football,” Edelman said. “Every game counts. So we have to turn the page, learn from it and try to get better. And that’s what we’re going to try to do.”

New England faces another difficult test next week when they take on the 8-4 San Diego Chargers on Sunday Night Football. Next time around, though, Edelman and the Patriots know what they have to do to win.

“We just didn’t convert in crucial situations on certain third downs, fourth-and-1s where we didn’t convert on third-and-short or medium,” Edelman said. “They won the third-down battle. That was probably one of the biggest parts of the game.”
