The New England Patriots’ defense is playing at a championship level. It’s time to give credit where it’s due.

One could point to several players as being difference-makers on this year’s Patriots defense. Seemingly lost in the shuffle is the work of defensive coordinator Matt Patricia, whom former Patriots linebacker Matt Chatham recently described in a FootballByFootball.com article as one of the best defensive coordinators in the NFL.

Chatham certainly would know. After all, he played for the guy. So while Darrelle Revis, Vince Wilfork, Jamie Collins and Co. receive most of the praise as the Patriots march toward the playoffs, we shouldn’t overlook Patricia’s impact.

Chatham acknowledged in his article that New England’s system absolutely is head coach Bill Belichick’s. However, Patricia has significant input in what goes into the Patriots’ defensive game plan each week. It’s been a very successful formula of late, as the Patriots’ defense is better now than it’s been in years.
