The New York Giants were looking to add to their lead over the St. Louis Rams late in the fourth quarter Sunday, but Daren Bates had other plans.
The second-year linebacker saw a chance to block a 29-yard field goal attempt by Josh Brown, and he jumped at the opportunity. Literally.
Bates cleared the Giants’ line with one leap and blocked the kick easily.
That wasn’t Bates’ first attempt at the impressive block this season either. SB Nation pointed out that he tried the exact same play against the San Francisco 49ers in November but mistimed the jump and was called offside. The slow motion is deceiving, but Bates just barely missed the play the first time.
Despite Bates’ sweet block, the Rams fumbled on the next snap and lost 37-27.
