The Chicago Cubs look like they’re having a Red Sox reunion on the North Side.
The Cubs sent shockwaves through baseball late Tuesday night when they reportedly signed free-agent pitcher Jon Lester to a six-year, $155 million contract. Now, according to reports, the Cubs might be zeroing in on a pair of Lester’s ex-teammates — catcher David Ross and outfielder Jonny Gomes.
Yahoo! Sports baseball reporter Jeff Passan tweeted early Wednesday morning that the chances of the Cubs signing both Ross and Gomes “increases significantly.”

ESPN’s Buster Olney also sent this tweet, referring to Ross and the Cubs’ tradition of playing day games.

There were recent reports indicating the Cubs and Red Sox had been targeting Ross, reportedly contingent upon landing Lester. Reports earlier in the offseason indicated Lester and Ross might actually be a “package deal” in free agency.
Coincidentally, the Cubs traded for catcher Miguel Montero on Tuesday and already have catcher Wellington Castillo on the roster.
