Jeff Green Thanks Celtics Fans: Boston Holds ‘Special Place In My Heart’ (Photo)

Jeff Green officially said goodbye to Beantown on Monday.

The long-rumored trade finally came to fruition, as the Boston Celtics swingman was shipped to the Memphis Grizzlies in a three-team deal that was finalized earlier Monday.

With reports emerging late last week that he would be on his way out of town, Green had plenty of time to craft his parting words to the Celtics faithful, so he didn’t waste any time sending out a heartfelt goodbye soon after the trade was announced.

Green, who was acquired by the Celtics at the 2011 trade deadline, never reached his full potential in Boston, but he endeared himself to many after he missed the entire 2011-12 season to undergo open-heart surgery. Boston fans rallied around him as he made his comeback the next season, and he specifically thanked the city for its support during that time.

The 28-year-old averaged 14.6 points and 4.2 rebounds per game in 222 games with the Celtics.
