Jonathan Martin Takes Down A Shoplifter At Los Angeles Mall (Photos)

His season’s over, and Jonathan Martin is still tackling people.

The San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman apparently did his good deed of the day Thursday while he was out shopping at the Beverly Center in Los Angeles with a friend at around 4 in the afternoon. Martin noticed a man who was in the midst of stealing some merchandise from a Versace store just a few yards away from him, so he “took a dude out,” according to his tweets.

He followed that tweet with a picture of said shoplifter on the ground.

Martin, who was at the center of the Miami Dolphins’ bullying controversy in 2013, said one person had taken off with three purses in tow, but he sprung into action when he realized he could stop the second man. Martin helped a security guard subdue the culprit, telling police he “punched the person five to eight times” until he went down.

“I didn’t even think,” Martin told Yahoo! Sports later. “I just reacted. It wasn’t (until) later when (my friend) said, ‘He could have had a gun.’ I didn’t even think about it. I just wanted to help.”

It’s always a bad idea to shoplift. It’s an even worse idea, though, when it’s in the presence of a football player.
