The Rhineland, Germany, derby between Borussia Monchengladbach and FC Cologne only was hot enough to require boiler-suits because some fans made it that way.

Boiler-suit-clad fans stormed the field at Stadion im Borussia-Park and clashed with police Saturday. The ugly scenes came moments after the final whistle in Borussia Monchengladbach’s 1-0 win over Cologne in Germany’s Bundesliga (first division).

Granit Xhaka scored the game-winning goal in second-half stoppage team, sending the home fans into delirium but setting some visiting fans into a bit of a rage. A group of them, wearing masks and boiler suits, ran onto the field, lit flares and tried to attack Borussia Monchengladbach players. They had to settle for fights with police and rival fans, instead.

Police eventually restored order and arrested several of the so-called fans.

It’s rare to see incidents like these in Germany’s top division.
