Report: Wes Welker Considering Retirement After Years Of Head Injuries

The 2014 NFL season might have been Wes Welker’s last.

The Denver Broncos wide receiver reportedly is mulling retirement, sources told FOX Sports on Tuesday. Welker, who’s only 33, has a history of head injuries and suffered his third documented concussion with Denver in the preseason.

The former New England Patriot put up some impressive numbers in Foxboro, compiling five seasons of 1,000-plus receiving yards over six years. However, his production took a steep decline with the Broncos, and he managed just two touchdowns to go with 464 receiving yards in 2014.

Welker is set to become an unrestricted free agent in March.

The Broncos could be dealing with two major departures, as quarterback Peyton Manning’s future also is uncertain.
