A minor league baseball team having a Star Wars-themed night: Not new. A minor league team wearing Jabba the Hutt jerseys: Definitely new.
We’ve seen our fair share of squads pay homage to the epic space movie franchise, and they haven’t just stuck to the Jedis. Two Arizona Diamondbacks announcers dressed up as storm troopers last season, for example, and the Boston Red Sox’s Double-A affiliate, the Portland Sea Dogs, donned some awesome Chewbacca threads last July.
But no team has done Jabba the Hutt yet, probably because he’s not exactly friendly on the eyes. Apparently that hasn’t stopped the Altoona Curve, who on May 30 will make the blob-like crime lord the massive center of attention.

Nailed it.
Unlike our good friend Jabba, the Pittsburgh Pirates’ Double-A affiliate is using the monster’s likeness to promote a good cause. The Curve will auction off these fantastic jerseys after the game, with proceeds going to a local soup kitchen.
