Report: Ndamukong Suh To Join Dolphins On Six-Year, $114M Contract

Ndamukong Suh is coming to the AFC East.

The free-agent defensive tackle has finalized a six-year, $114 million deal with the Miami Dolphins that includes with $60 million guaranteed, league sources told ESPN’s Chris Mortensen on Sunday. The deal can’t officially be finalized until Tuesday.

Suh became a highly coveted free agent this offseason after the Detroit Lions declined to franchise tag him. They had remained a contender to sign him, but couldn’t afford to spend the nearly $26.9 million the tag would have cost them.

Houston Texans defensive end J.J. Watt set the bar for Suh’s reported deal when he signed a six-year, $100 million extension with $51.8 million guaranteed before the start of the 2014 season. If the terms of Suh’s contract are correct, it would be the richest in NFL history for a defensive player.

The 28-year-old Suh spent his entire five-year career with the Lions. He tallied 8.5 sacks last season to go with 53 combined tackles.

However, Suh often toes the line between playing aggressively and playing dirty, racking up $420,669 in fines in his short career. The most severe punishment came in 2011 when he was fined $165,294 and suspended two games for stomping on then-Green Bay Packers center Evan Dietrich-Smith. Most recently, he was fined $70,000 — which was reduced from a one-game suspension — for stepping on Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers during their wild-card matchup.
