Will Ferrell Responds To John Madden’s Spring Training Criticism (Video)

Will Ferrell made a lot of people happy with his MLB spring training stunt, but John Madden certainly wasn’t one of them.

The actor suited up for 10 different teams and played in five separate Cactus League games earlier this month, raising nearly $1 million for cancer research during the highly entertaining day. But Madden didn’t find Ferrell’s time on the diamond so funny. The legendary NFL coach and broadcaster ripped Ferrell, claiming the actor’s stunt “showed a lack of respect for the game.”

It was Ferrell’s turn to respond to the criticism Thursday night on “Conan.” Ferrell was there to promote his new movie “Get Hard,” but he also addressed Madden’s statements in hilarious fashion.

“First of all, he’s right. Look at me. I’m all about lack of respect. I don’t think the interviewer told him it was all for charity, number one, but I do love that in his mind he just thought I was just like ‘Major League Baseball, I want to play in 10 different games for 10 different teams. I want to do it Thursday! Because I’m a big shot, and make it happen now!’ Like I’m Veruca Salt. So he’s like, ‘this Will Ferrell thinks he can just insert himself into big league games.'”

Wait. That’s not how it happened?
