There are plenty of power hitters in Major League Baseball. Ben Revere isn’t one of them.

In fact, the Philadelphia Phillies outfielder has become quite prolific at not hitting long balls. In 1,905 regular-season at-bats, Revere has hit two over the fences, and they both came last season.

If this spring is any indication, though, the light-hitting 26-year-old might be in for a power surge. With his team tied with the Pittsburgh Pirates in the ninth inning of Friday night’s exhibition at Citizens Bank Park, Revere lined a long ball into the right field seats to give the Phillies a 7-5 win.

It goes without saying that was Revere’s first big league walk-off homer.

The long ball won’t count toward Revere’s official stats, of course, but that didn’t stop him from gleefully high-stepping around the basepaths before being scooped up by teammate Jonathan Papelbon at home plate.

So was Revere’s blast an aberration or a sign of things to come? If you ask him, it’s the latter.

“You never know what could happen this season,” Revere said with a smile after the game.
