Peter Chiarelli was introduced Friday as the Edmonton Oilers’ president of hockey operations and general manager, but it’s possible the Boston Bruins could receive draft pick compensation as a result.

Oilers Entertainment Group CEO Bob Nicholson told reporters on a conference call Friday that the topic has been discussed between the teams.

The Bruins fired Chiarelli as their GM on April 15 after he spent nine seasons in Boston. However, NHL deputy commissioner Bill Daly recently told Pierre LeBrun of ESPN.com “that for coaches, general managers or presidents of hockey operations who are fired but remain under contract, their teams are privy to draft pick compensation if they choose to pursue it.”
