David Ortiz Batting Third, Playing First Base On Red Sox Opening Day

The Boston Red Sox will have to wait at least three games before they can unveil their true 2015 lineup.

The Red Sox begin their season at 3:05 p.m. ET Monday in Philadelphia against the Phillies. Because the game is in a National League park, Boston loses the designated hitter. David Ortiz will start at first base instead, and Mike Napoli will be on the bench.

Ortiz and the Red Sox lineup have the unenviable task of facing Phillies ace Cole Hamels in their season opener. The left-hander has owned the Sox in limited appearances, holding a 4-0 career record with a 1.97 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 32 innings of work against Boston.

The Red Sox will hand the ball to Clay Buchholz, who is making the first Opening Day start of his career. It will be the right-hander’s first career start against Philadelphia.

Here are the lineups for both clubs.
