Stephen A. Smith Issues Apology For Sexist Joke About Women’s World Cup

Stephen A. Smith is in hot water. Again.

The ESPN personality is under fire for a joke — a really bad joke — he made during his Thursday night appearance on “SportsCenter.” While rattling through the “Top 10” plays segment, Smith made a sexist crack about Women’s World Cup players when Norway’s impressive free-kick goal was featured.

Smith joked that the German players didn’t block the goal because they “might not have wanted to mess their hair” up.

Suffice it to say, that little comment didn’t sit well with a lot of people, including two of his ESPN colleagues: ESPN The Magazine senior editor Megan Greenwell and ESPN writer Kate Fagan.

After taking some heat for his remarks, Smith did what he does in these situations and issued an apology.
