Watch American Pharoah Race Secretariat In Historic Triple Crown Dash (Video)

American Pharoah solidified himself as one of the all-time greats Saturday. Just not the all-time great.

The thoroughbred won the 2015 Belmont Stakes with ease, defeating Frosted by several lengths to capture horse racing’s 12th-ever Triple Crown and first since 1978.

American Pharoah completed his record run in two minutes and 26 seconds, the fastest time at the Belmont since 2001. His performance was historically impressive, but one legendary horse still has him beat.

The Wall Street Journal proved that Monday, posting a cool split-screen video showing American Pharoah’s Belmont win alongside Secretariat’s dash that won him the Triple Crown in 1973.

Sorry, American Pharoah, but that wasn’t close.

Secretariat posted a blistering time of two minutes and 24 seconds, still a record since the race extended to 1 1/2 miles in 1926.

Of course, Secretariat is regarded by many as the greatest racehorse ever, so American Pharoah still is some pretty solid company.
