The St. Louis Blues shook up their core Thursday by trading top-six winger T.J. Oshie to the Washington Capitals.

The Blues acquired goaltender Phoenix Copley, who was expected to be the No. 1 goalie for Washington’s AHL affiliate next season, as well as veteran winger Troy Brouwer and a 2016 third-round draft pick.

Blues general manager Doug Armstrong released a statement after the move Thursday.

Washington didn’t give up much for Oshie, who’s best known for his legendary shootout performance against Russia in the United States’ dramatic win in the group stage of the 2014 Winter Olympics.

Oshie and Justin Williams, who signed a two-year, $6.5 million free-agent deal Wednesday, give the Capitals excellent scoring depth for next season.
