Mass. Highways Join Red Sox In Xander Bogaerts All-Star Campaign (Photos)

If you commuted to work in the Boston area Thursday, there’s a strong chance you witnessed the newest wrinkle in the Xander Bogaerts All-Star campaign.

As a way of boosting the Red Sox shortstop’s candidacy for the final American League All-Star spot, messages bearing the hashtag #XforASG popped up on electronic road signs around the state.

Bogaerts needs all the help he can get. As of Thursday afternoon, the 22-year-old ranked fourth out of the four AL Final Vote nominees in fan voting, with Kansas City Royals third baseman Mike Moustakas leading the pack.

(The fifth Final Vote contestant, New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner, was added to the All-Star roster Thursday as an injury replacement for Kansas City’s Alex Gordon.)
