Well, this is awkward.

LaMarcus Aldridge, the prize of NBA free agency, agreed to sign with the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday. Aldridge reportedly was deciding between signing with San Antonio or the Phoenix Suns. With all the hype regarding Aldridge’s potential decision, Phoenix mayor Greg Stanton decided to pitch in with the recruiting efforts.

Less than 12 hours later, Aldridge was a Spur. Fortunately, Stanton has a sense of humor.

Of course, maybe Stanton should have done his research. The last time an NBA team unveiled a banner to recruit a free agent, it didn’t go very well — just ask the Houston Rockets.
