The push to bring the 2024 Summer Olympics to Boston has been the subject of heated debate for months now.

Some Bostonians would love to see the world’s greatest sporting showcase held in their city. Others want nothing to do with it.

Count David Ortiz as one of the former.

In a promotional video for the Boston 2024 campaign, the Red Sox designated hitter formally backed the cause to bring the Games to Massachusetts.

“Boston fans are sport fans,” Ortiz said. “And when it comes down to sport, we are the best. The fans here are going to support the Olympics better than anyone else. Bringing the Olympics to Boston is something that’ll make this place even more special.

“It would impact not just the young athletes of New England. It would impact every single citizen.”

Ortiz’s sport, baseball, hasn’t been an Olympic event since 2008 but could return for the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo.
