Reports: Deron Williams To Sign With Mavericks After Buyout From Nets

The Deron Williams era is over in Brooklyn.

The three-time All-Star point guard on Friday reached a buyout agreement with the Nets and intends to sign a two-year, $10 million contract with the Dallas Mavericks, according to multiple reports.

NBA.com’s David Aldridge was the first to report news of the buyout, and ESPN.com offered details of Williams’ reported deal with Dallas.

Williams, who grew up in the Dallas area, is expected to clear waivers Monday, allowing him to ink a deal with the hometown Mavs. The Nets will pay him $27.5 million over the next five seasons per the terms of the buyout, according to ESPN.com’s sources.

Williams switching from Brooklyn to Dallas could have implications for the Boston Celtics, as the Celtics own both the Nets’ and Mavericks’ first-round picks in the 2016 NBA Draft. Brooklyn’s pick is unprotected, while Dallas’ is top-seven protected.

The reported agreement with Williams came one day after center DeAndre Jordan reneged on his contract agreement with the Mavs to instead re-sign with the Los Angeles Clippers. Mavericks forward Chandler Parsons told ESPN.com on Thursday that Jordan’s change of heart “put our entire franchise and our team in a really, really tough spot.”

With Williams out the door, the Nets now are “intent on keeping” veteran guard Joe Johnson. It was reported earlier this week that the Cleveland Cavaliers were considering making a play for Johnson.
