Steven Wright To Start Saturday For Red Sox; Eduardo Rodriguez Moved Back

Manager John Farrell on Thursday announced a tweak to the Boston Red Sox’s rotation.

Knuckleballer Steven Wright will be recalled from Triple-A Pawtucket to start Saturday against the Detroit Tigers, Farrell told reporters in Houston. Eduardo Rodriguez, who originally was scheduled to pitch Saturday, has been moved to Sunday.

Wright, who served as Boston’s 26th man for Monday’s doubleheader in Anaheim, was roughed up in Game 2 of that twinbill, allowing six runs on five hits (including two home runs) in a five-inning start. Before Monday, his previous five appearances had come out of the bullpen.

Rodriguez had even worse luck against the Angels. The rookie left-hander lasted just 1 2/3 innings in Game 1 on Monday, surrendering seven runs on six hits (including another two homers) and walking three as Los Angeles cruised to an 11-1 win.

Rodriguez has allowed two earned runs or fewer in seven of his 10 major league starts but six earned runs or more in each of the remaining three.

Rick Porcello will start Friday’s series opener against the Tigers, his former team.
