David Ortiz Back At DH, Travis Shaw Returns For Red Sox Vs. Mariners

David Ortiz started at first base in both of the Boston Red Sox’s interleague road games against the Miami Marlins, but he’ll be back in his familiar role Friday night.

Ortiz will start at designated hitter for Boston as it opens a three-game series against the Seattle Mariners at Fenway Park. That means Travis Shaw will be back at first base and bat seventh.

The only other change in the Red Sox’s lineup is at catcher. Ryan Hanigan will start behind the plate, with right-hander Joe Kelly on the mound. Kelly is coming off two consecutive wins, but he was far from perfect in those starts. He allowed five runs and nine hits over five innings against the Tampa Bay Rays on Aug. 1, and he lasted just 5 1/3 innings against the Detroit Tigers on Aug. 7.
