UPDATE (4:43 p.m. ET):Â Hanley Ramirez has been scratched from the Boston Red Sox’s lineup for Friday night’s matchup with the New York Mets and replaced in left field by Jackie Bradley Jr., according to reporters in New York.
Here is the updated Red Sox lineup:
RED SOX (58-69)
Mookie Betts, CF
Pablo Sandoval, 3B
Xander Bogaerts, SS
David Ortiz, 1B
Brock Holt, 2B
Rusney Castillo, RF
Blake Swihart, C
Jackie Bradley Jr., LF
Henry Owens, LHPÂ (2-1, 4.50 ERA)
UPDATE (5:20 p.m. ET): Hanley Ramirez’s scratch was the result of right shoulder fatigue, acting Red Sox manager Torey Lovullo told reporters.
ORIGINAL STORY:Â David Ortiz will pick up the glove once again for the Boston Red Sox on Friday as they begin their final road interleague series of 2015.
Ortiz, usually Boston’s designated hitter, will start at first base against New York Mets ace Matt Harvey at Citi Field. Ortiz sat out Wednesday’s 3-0 win over the Chicago White Sox, as did Pablo Sandoval, who will start at third base and bat second against Harvey and the Mets.
With Sandoval and Ortiz returning, Brock Holt shifts from third base back to second, and Hanley Ramirez — Wednesday’s DH — moves to his usual spot in left field. Ramirez, Mookie Betts and Rusney Castillo will start from left to right in the Red Sox’s outfield, with Jackie Bradley Jr. beginning Friday’s series opener on the bench.
Friday also will give Henry Owens a chance to swing the bat for the first time in his major league career. The 23-year-old left-hander has started four games for the Red Sox and is coming off his best outing yet, having allowed one earned run on four hits in eight innings of a 7-2 win over the Kansas City Royals last Friday.
