Report: Patriots Work Out Free-Agent Wide Receiver Gerrard Sheppard

The New England Patriots have just six fully healthy wide receivers, so it’s not surprising they reportedly worked out a wideout Wednesday.

The Patriots brought in free-agent receiver Gerrard Sheppard for a workout Wednesday, a source told the Houston Chronicle’s Aaron Wilson. Sheppard previously played for the Baltimore Ravens and Green Bay Packers. He went undrafted out of Towson in 2013.

Towson left Wednesday’s workout without a contract, according to a source.

Sheppard is listed at 6-foot-2, 215 pounds and ran a 4.48-second 40-yard dash at his pro day in 2013. He began his college career at UConn before transferring to Towson. He has never suited up in an NFL regular-season game.
