Robert Griffin III: ‘I Feel Like I’m The Best Quarterback In The League’

Robert Griffin III might have the hottest NFL quarterback take of ’em all.

The Washington Redskins quarterback, through a combination of inconsistent play and injuries, has failed to live up to sky-high expectations so far in his career. Coming out of Baylor as the No. 2 overall pick in the 2012 NFL Draft, Griffin was expected to be one of the game’s best quarterbacks before too long.

Well, it hasn’t really gone according to plan so far. After a nice rookie season, RG3’s play has gone south. Over the last two seasons, Griffin has played in just 22 games, throwing 20 touchdown passes to 18 interceptions. All in all, he’s been “meh.”

However, RG3 still believes he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. Actually, he somehow believes he’s the best.

“I don’t feel like I have to come out here and show anybody anything or why I’m better than this guy or better than that guy,” Griffin told WJLA-TV in Washington, D.C. “It’s more about going out and affirming that for me, I go out and I play, I know I’m the best quarterback on this team. I feel like I’m the best quarterback in the league and I have to go out and show that.

“Any athlete at any level, if they concede to someone else, they’re not a top competitor, they’re not trying to be the best that they can be. There’s guys in this league that have done way more than me. But I still view myself as the best because that’s what I work toward every single day.”

Griffin probably has the talent to become one of the NFL’s best quarterbacks. However, could he really do it? It seems unlikely, but he still has a long way to go before he even can enter the discussion. Staying on the field and proving he can take care of the football — he has lost eight fumbles in the last two seasons, in addition to the 18 picks — would go a long way in starting to turn around the conversation.
