It’s not uncommon for fans to throw a visiting players’ home run ball back onto the field, but one New York Yankees fan got a little overexcited while doing it Sunday.

During the top of the fourth inning of the Yankees’ game against Toronto, Blue Jays right fielder Jose Bautista smacked a homer to left field. The fan who caught the ball tried to toss it back, but they ended up plunking Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner in the back.

Gardner wasn’t hurt, but it still makes a pretty good case for not tossing home run balls back. Or at least tossing them a little more softly.
