Kenbrell Thompkins, Jerod Mayo Among Patriots’ Practice Players Of The Week

FOXBORO, Mass. — Kenbrell Thompkins has been back with the New England Patriots for a little over a week, and he’s already winning awards.

Thompkins, who’s currently on the practice squad, was one of five Patriots named practice players of the week. He was joined by quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, safety Tavon Wilson, cornerback Logan Ryan and, surprisingly, linebacker Jerod Mayo.

The practice player of the week awards usually get handed out to Patriots on the scout team who best imitated members of the opposition. Thompkins was likely mimicking his cousin, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown.

Mayo, a defensive captain, played sparingly against the Steelers, only receiving snaps in certain base-defense sets. Ryan received just four defensive snaps, and Wilson was inactive after being listed as questionable on the practice report with a quad injury.
