Report: Patriots Worked Out Terrelle Pryor After Browns Waived Converted QB

Terrelle Pryor apparently is hoping to follow in Julian Edelman’s footsteps.

Pryor, the former Oakland Raiders quarterback who failed to catch on with the Cleveland Browns as a wide receiver this preseason, worked out Monday for the New England Patriots, a source told NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport. No signing is imminent, however, per Rapoport’s source.

ProFootballTalk reported over the weekend, citing a league source, that Pryor had two workouts scheduled this week — both at wideout.

Despite a hamstring injury that limited him to one game — and zero catches — in the preseason, Pryor initially made the Browns’ 53-man roster only to be waived before Cleveland’s regular-season opener.

“This will be a mistake by them,” the 26-year-old said, via Cleveland.com’s Mary Kay Cabot, after learning of his fate.

Pryor appeared in 15 total games in three seasons with the Raiders, including 11 in 2013. He was traded to the Seattle Seahawks in April 2014 but was released before seeing game action. Brief stints with the Kansas City Chiefs, Cincinnati Bengals and Browns followed, each of them ending without Pryor appearing on a regular-season roster.

The Patriots have experience with converted quarterbacks. Edelman, a former signal-caller at Kent State, has blossomed into Tom Brady’s No. 1 target since being drafted in the seventh round in 2009.
