Appeal or no appeal, Chase Utley isn’t in the lineup.
The Los Angeles Dodgers second baseman reportedly appealed a two-game suspension for his illegal slide that broke New York Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada’s leg in Game 2 of the National League Division Series. But the Dodgers will take the field Monday night for a pivotal Game 3 of their best-of-five series without Utley starting.
Dodgers manager Don Mattingly discussed Utley’s absence prior to the game.
Mattingly said Utley is not in lineup for baseball reasons, not safety reasons or medical reasons.
