The New York Giants’ pass rush could soon be adding some much-needed explosiveness.
Sources told FOX Sports that defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul is close to signing a contract with the Giants. The expectation reportedly is that a deal will be completed Tuesday.
Pierre-Paul has missed the entire season thus far after blowing off his finger and part of his hand in a Fourth of July fireworks accident. The hope, according to a FOX Sports source, is that Pierre-Paul will be ready for the Giants’ Week 10 matchup with the New England Patriots. He’ll reportedly spend this week getting into shape before returning to practice and ramping up his work to be ready for the Pats.
The Giants reportedly will end up paying Pierre-Paul less than they would have had he not had the fireworks accident, which is what they sought to do shortly after the news broke over the summer.
Pierre-Paul was among the NFL leaders in sacks last season with 12.5. If his play is anything close to that, it would be a big help for the Giants, who have struggled to put pressure on the quarterback this season. Only the Atlanta Falcons have fewer quarterback sacks this season than the Giants’ nine.
