Peyton Manning isn’t healthy, but if and when he gets back to full health, the Denver Broncos might be looking at a rather complicated situation.
The NFL announced Wednesday that Broncos quarterback Brock Osweiler won AFC Offensive Player of the Week honors for his performance in his first career start. The Broncos’ backup stepped in for the injured Manning and completed 20 of 27 passes for 250 yards and two touchdowns in Denver’s 17-15 win over the Chicago Bears.
Osweiler will have a chance to defend his crown, so to speak, as he already has been tabbed to start in the Broncos’ Sunday night showdown with the New England Patriots. The 25-year-old figures to receive at least two more chances, too, as Broncos head coach Gary Kubiak announced Tuesday that Manning will miss at least two more weeks with multiple injuries, most notably a foot injury.
What happens when Manning is healthy enough to play again will be real interesting to watch. The 39-year-old is in the midst of the worst season of his 18-year NFL career. In Week 10 against Kansas City Chiefs, he completed just 5 of 20 passes and threw four interceptions before being benched in favor of Osweiler.
