Cam Neely: Tuukka Rask ‘Not Happy With His Numbers,’ Needs To Be Better

Tuukka Rask has been solid — and, at times, even spectacular — in the three games he’s won this season. But on nights when the Boston Bruins goaltender has struggled, he’s struggled hard.

Rask has allowed a total of 24 goals over his five losses this season, including five or more in all but one.

Bruins president Cam Neely acknowledged Thursday in an interview with 98.5 The Sports Hub’s “Felger & Massarotti” that Rask — a Vezina Trophy winner just two seasons ago — has not performed up to his potential.

“Tuukka is the first to admit that he needs to play better,” Neely said. “He’s a competitive goalie, and we certainly need him to be one of our best players out there. I expect him to get back to where he’s capable of playing. He’s not happy with his numbers, and I can envision those improving throughout the year.”

Rask carried into Thursday night’s date with the Washington Capitals a 3.52 goals against average and .876 save percentage. Those marks ranked 37th and 38th in the NHL, respectively.
