Charlie Sheen bravely told the world on Tuesday that he was diagnosed with HIV.
Despite years in the spotlight, the disease still faces a stigma and lacks a treatment that can cure the virus altogether. That’s why arguably the highest-profile person to ever contract HIV, BasketballĀ Hall of Famer Magic Johnson, took to Twitter to both offer support to and request assistance from Sheen.
I wish @CharlieSheen and his family the best. With the advancement in treatments and medicine he can fight this disease and live a long life

In @CharlieSheen breaking his silence, I hope he joins me in educating the world about HIV/AIDs.

Johnson announced his immediate retirement from the NBA due to his own HIV diagnosis 24 years ago this month.
