Patriots Re-Sign Chris Harper To Practice Squad After Week 12 Muffed Punt

FOXBORO, Mass. — Chris Harper’s muffed punt didn’t keep him away from the New England Patriots for long.

Harper, who was waived Monday, signed to the Patriots’ practice squad Wednesday. Harper, who cleared waivers Tuesday, muffed a punt in the fourth quarter Sunday night while the Patriots had a 21-7 lead, giving the ball back to the Denver Broncos at New England’s 36-yard line. The Broncos scored, kicking off a 17-0 run. The Patriots lost 30-24 after overtime.

The Patriots also signed defensive tackle Kelcy Quarles to their practice squad.

Harper has played three games for the Patriots but doesn’t have an NFL catch yet. He has three punt returns for 17 yards.

Harper signed with the Patriots in May as an undrafted free agent out of California. He made the Patriots’ initial 53-man roster but was cut after Week 1. He was on the Patriots’ practice squad until being signed to the active roster on Nov. 17.
