You might think Mark Cuban, who’s made billions of dollars on savvy investments and smart financial decisions, might have some real sharp insight for whoever wins this week’s historic Powerball jackpot.
However, Cuban’s advice is pretty simple: Keep things simple.
The Dallas Mavericks owner was asked if he had any advice for any potential winners of the record $1.5 billion Powerball lottery set to be drawn Wednesday.
The advice, which Cuban doled out via The Dallas Morning News, covers some of the obvious points. Don’t take the lump sum, he says, and make sure you hire a tax attorney. Oh, and you better learn how to say no, if you can’t already. His advice on investments, however, might be the most eye-opening.
“You don’t become a smart investor when you win the lottery,” he says, per The Dallas Morning News. “Don’t make investments. You can put it in the bank and live comfortably. Forever. You will sleep a lot better knowing you won’t lose money.”
Oh, and you probably want to make sure you avoid having to hand any of that money over to the NBA by way of fines. Cuban’s still working on that one, though.
