Kanye West isn’t fresh out of music ideas, but apparently he’s out of money.
The recording artist made headlines Monday for his recent tweets stating he had $53 million in personal debt, which he asked Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg to help him get out of with a $1 billion investment.
West’s personal debt got us wondering at NESN.com if there were any professional sports teams with a payroll less than West’s debt. And it turns one there is one — the Portland Trail Blazers.
Portland has the smallest payroll of the four major professional sports leagues with $48,507,180 for the 2015-16 season, according to Basketball-Reference.com. The NHL’s salary floor is just under $53 million, but no team is close to that mark.
The Trail Blazers have taken a step back this season, but they have been a consistent playoff team of late. And they didn’t even need $53 million to do it.
