One unlucky soccer fan paid a heavy price for sitting within Lionel Messi’s shooting range.
Messi injured a fan Sunday in FC Barcelona’s 2-2 draw with in Villarreal in Spain’s La Liga (first division). Messi uncorked a powerful, errant shot in the first half that missed Villarreal’s goal, hitting a fan seated behind the net.
Early reports indicated Messi’s shot fractured the fan’s wrist but those diagnoses turned out to be erroneous, according to Sky Sports.
Either way, the fan is likely to buy a ticket for one of the other 24,999 seats at Estadio El Madrigal, Villarreall’s intimate home stadium, next time she decides to visit.
