Jason Chimera had his head in the game Sunday, and it resulted in one of the coolest goals you’ll see this season.
The Washington Capitals already were trailing the Pittsburgh Penguins by two goals early in the second period at CONSOL Energy Center when Chimera turned on the jets to chase after a puck in Pittsburgh’s zone.
Penguins goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury reached out to try to poke the puck clear of danger, but that strategy backfired, as it bounced directly off Chimera’s noggin and into the net for the rare “header” goal.

If you’re wondering why Chimera’s goal counted and Andrew Shaw’s fantastic headbutt goal in last season’s Stanley Cup Playoffs didn’t, it’s because the Capitals forward didn’t make a deliberate effort to head the puck in — it just happened to deflect off his head.
That doesn’t make his goal any less awesome, although that was one of the few highlights in Washington’s 6-2 blowout loss to Pittsburgh.
